Around 1965, a certain Bruce F. Meyers builds, in California, beach vehicles with a polyester body based on the VW Beetle. The Meyers Manx can be labeled as the original Buggy. The success was immediate but it was not until 1968 that the first “Buggies” were imported into Europe.<\/p>\n
Edmond Pery, the man behind the APAL brand in Liege, was one of the first to see the potential of buggies. He wants to be the first to present an original Buggy to Volkswagen management in order to obtain a manufacturer’s warranty for the mechanical part.<\/p>\n
Charles Van den Bosch designed the body with the typical notch on the sides that characterizes an APAL buggy. In collaboration with the French company Multimaco, a first APAL Buggy is presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1969. 160 orders are taken in 10 days.<\/p>\n
Pery receives the authorization from Volkswagen to market its buggy via the official Volkswagen network in Belgium.<\/p>\n
This fully restored model has original Apal seats and Porsche 356 instrumentation. It is equipped with a 1500cc engine and a hood including the doors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
