The 997 represents a major relaunch of the 911 that includes a major body restyling and interior update, while utilizing much of the rolling chassis of the outgoing 996. It included an upgraded version of the Carrera’s water-cooled engine, now offered in 3.6-liter for the Carrera and 3.8-liter for the Carrera S.<\/p>\n
As with all new 911s, the two Carrera’s were definitely a better package than the previous models and the restyling, in particular, gave the 997 a more classic appeal that the 996 lacked. For everyday driving, the differences in maximum power are minimal, with the 3.8S offering more flexibility.<\/p>\n
Like the 996, the 997 models offer 2+2 seating, with enough rear room for average-sized adults on short trips. The installation of child seats is simple. The rear seats fold down to provide additional storage space, while the front compartment can accommodate two (small) suitcases of appropriate size.<\/p>\n
The S’s Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system provides a pleasant, yet firm ride on most roads, while the Sport setting allows you to feel every bump.<\/p>\n
Cabriolet models do not have the hardtop included (like the 996), and offer a fully electric roof deployment. The fastest 911s (with the exception of the Turbo Gen 2) use the tried and true “Mezger” engine, which has a proven track record (under certain conditions).<\/p>\n
This model, a 3.8 Carrera S convertible bought new in Belgium, is in irreproachable condition. The maintenance booklet is present, last maintenance in July 2021.<\/p>\n
