The 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider 1600 represents the ultimate evolution of a lineage born with the Giulietta Spider in 1955. Designed by Pininfarina, this Tipo 101 series embodies Italian sporty elegance. In 1962, the Giulietta became the Giulia: the small 1300 engine was replaced by a 1600 cc twin-cam engine, derived from the Giulia TI sedan, developing 92 horsepower in its standard version and up to 112 horsepower for the Veloce. The gearbox was upgraded to five speeds, which was rare at the time, and performance improved, with a top speed approaching 175 km/h.
From 1963, the Giulia Spider adopted front disc brakes, an important evolution that enhanced its safety and braking efficiency. This mixed system — discs at the front, drums at the rear — remains simple but effective, perfectly adapted to the vehicle’s contained weight and its sporting pretensions. This technical improvement, coupled with precise steering and a balanced chassis, makes the car pleasant and agile, both on winding roads and highways.
The late production models in 1965 benefit from all the improvements accumulated since the model’s launch: refined mechanics, proven braking system, well-spaced gearbox, and stabilized finish quality. They also retain the pure and classic Pininfarina-designed lines, before the style was profoundly modified with the arrival of the Duetto in 1966. Manufactured in small quantities, these last Spider Tipo 101 models combine the elegance of the original design, superior reliability, and more modern driving characteristics. They are now highly sought after by connoisseurs, as a perfect synthesis between artisanal tradition and technical maturity.
The model presented is in very good overall condition and is of American origin. It was produced on 18/11/1964 and first registered new on 16/4/1965. It was imported to Belgium in 1992 and fully restored until 2012.
It is in perfect condition, both mechanically and in terms of bodywork and upholstery. The convertible top is in good condition.
