The Austin-Healey 100/6, launched in 1956 and produced until 1959, represents an important step in the evolution of the Austin-Healey range. It succeeded the Austin-Healey 100, the original model born from the partnership between the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and Donald Healey, a renowned British engineer and driver. The 1957 100/6 model embodies a modernization of the initial formula, both mechanically and stylistically.

Unlike the 100, which was equipped with a four-cylinder engine, the 100/6 adopts a 2.6-liter inline six-cylinder engine derived from the Austin Westminster, developing about 102 horsepower in its initial version, increased to 117 horsepower in 1957 with the introduction of the revised “BN4” version. This change in engine was intended to make the car smoother and more powerful, while meeting the expectations of the American market, the main outlet for these British roadsters.

In terms of design, the 100/6 retains the elegant and low lines of the previous series, but introduces some tweaks, such as a slightly modified grille, a hood with a raised air intake, as well as an extended wheelbase allowing the addition of two small rear seats, making the model a 2+2. Two main variants are offered: the BN4 with four seats and a four-speed gearbox with overdrive, then the BN6 with two seats, introduced in 1958.

In 1957, the Austin-Healey 100/6 saw an improvement in its performance, notably thanks to a new cylinder head and better fuel supply, reinforcing its appeal to sports driving enthusiasts. Although heavier than the original 100, it remains a lively and enjoyable car to drive, true to the “British roadster” spirit.

The 100/6 also marks a transition period before the arrival of the Austin-Healey 3000 in 1959, which would succeed it with an even more powerful engine. It therefore occupies a special place in the history of the brand, combining the classic charm of the 100 and the beginnings of the 3000’s performance. Today, the 1957 model is sought after by collectors for its pure style, iconic mechanics, and pivotal role in the Big Healeys lineage.

This example was delivered new in England in 1957. It is therefore an improved BN4 version with right-hand drive. It is equipped with a hardtop. It is in very good condition and is well documented.
