The Fiat Dino holds a unique place in the history of Italian automobiles. It was the result of an exceptional collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari, mandated by the Formula 2 regulations of the late 1960s. To homologate its brand-new V6 engine, Ferrari had to produce at least 500 units. An agreement was then reached with Fiat, which took on the task of integrating this exceptional powertrain into two mass-produced models: the Spider designed by Pininfarina and the Coupé designed by Bertone. The name “Dino” pays tribute to Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari’s son, who died prematurely and was heavily involved in the development of this dual-cam V6 engine.

Introduced in 1967, the Bertone Coupé immediately captivated buyers with its understated elegance, its four full-size seats, and its excellent balance. More versatile than the Spider, it went on to enjoy even greater commercial success, becoming one of the finest examples of Italian grand touring of its era.

In 1969, the second generation—the Fiat Dino 2400—was introduced, considered the culmination of the model. Its Ferrari V6 engine was increased from 2.0 to 2.4 liters and produced 180 chevaux. It featured the same cast-iron block as the one that would power the famous Ferrari Dino 246 GT, offering a unique metallic sound and exceptional mechanical character. Paired with a five-speed ZF transmission and a limited-slip differential, it could reach nearly 220 km/h, making the Dino 2400 one of the highest-performing Italian coupes of its era.

This evolution isn’t limited to the mechanical aspects. The independent rear suspension replaces the old rigid axle and transforms the car’s handling. The oversized Girling brakes, wider wheels, and numerous chassis refinements make it a true GT, just as enjoyable on long drives as it is on winding roads. The interior has also undergone a major overhaul, featuring a redesigned dashboard, new seats, and an even more refined finish.

Another particularly prestigious detail: the Fiat Dino 2400s were no longer assembled at the Fiat plants in Rivalta but in Maranello, on the same production lines as the Ferrari Dino 246 GT, illustrating the very close ties that existed between Fiat and Ferrari at the time.

This vehicle has a particularly reassuring maintenance history and a file of invoices. It has always been carefully maintained, and numerous repairs have been carried out over the years to keep it in excellent cosmetic and operational condition.

Among the most significant initiatives are the following:

• Replacement of all rubber mounts;
• Complete carburetor overhaul (diaphragms, jets, and restoration kits);
• Clutch replacement;
• Complete body restoration in 2019, with a fifteen-year warranty;
• Complete interior refurbishment in 2020;
• Extensive mechanical service, including valve adjustment (report available), radiator repair, replacement of all hoses, spark plugs, and distributor caps, as well as routine maintenance.

Since it was purchased by the current owner in 2023, the car has seen very little use. Only two repairs have been performed: the replacement of the steering ball joints and the repair of the rear wheel studs.

Before it is delivered to its future owner, a thorough service will be performed to ensure that this Fiat Dino is ready to hit the road in top condition.
