The Fiat Dino 2.4 Spider is the result of “an alliance between Fiat and Ferrari in the 1960s, motivated by a regulatory constraint: in order to homologate its new V6 engine designed by Dino Ferrari for Formula 2, the Maranello brand had to produce a certain number of” road-going examples equipped with this engine. Lacking sufficient production capacity, Ferrari called upon Fiat to help reach this volume.
The Fiat Dino was thus launched in 1966, initially with a 2.0-liter V6 engine. In 1969, a more refined version emerged: the Fiat Dino 2.4. This significant evolution marked a turning point for the model. The engine, still a Ferrari V6, increased to 2.4 liters of displacement (2418 cm³), developing approximately 180 horsepower, and was now produced in Maranello, like other Ferrari engines. Unlike the 2.0, which used a Fiat gearbox, the 2.4 received a ZF 5-speed gearbox and an independent rear suspension, which significantly improved road holding.
The Spider, designed by Pininfarina, was distinguished by its elegant and understated lines, combining sportiness and refinement. It offered a more accessible alternative to a Ferrari but with true shared DNA. Only 424 examples of the Fiat Dino 2.4 Spider were produced between 1969 and 1972, making it a highly sought-after and relatively rare model today.
Assembled by Pininfarina, this Spider version benefited from particular care in its manufacturing and a more exclusive positioning. It was also well-equipped for its time, featuring wood trim, leather seats, and high-level performance, with a top speed approaching 210 km/h.
This example, one of the 424 produced, was imported by the current owner in 2013, after restoration. The car has nevertheless been very well maintained since, with over €50,000 in invoices over 12 years, and just under 20,000 km driven.
Recent work includes a new battery, a full service, brake pads, a new clutch, an overhaul of the running gear, various electrical work, and the timing chain.
