The Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato 1300 S Series 2 appeared in 1970, at a time when Lancia wanted to rationalize production of the Fulvia Sport while retaining the originality of the version designed by Ercole Spada for the Milanese coachbuilder Zagato. Since its appearance in 1965, the Fulvia Sport has been the most daring model in the Fulvia range, with a streamlined fastback silhouette that contrasts sharply with the coupé designed by Piero Castagnero. The Series 2 retains this characteristic line but receives several modifications designed to improve habitability and simplify manufacturing.
The most significant transformation concerns the body construction. Whereas early Fulvia Sport models made extensive use of aluminum, the Series 2 adopts an all-steel body, allowing for more homogeneous production and greater durability. The roof is slightly raised to improve space on board, while the rear wings are redesigned and the taillights become horizontal, giving the car an instantly recognizable visual signature. The whole remains true to the Zagato spirit: a compact, highly aerodynamic car with a strong stylistic personality.
The powertrain is still based on the sophisticated technical architecture for which the Fulvia is renowned. Under the hood is the famous Lancia V4 engine, designed by engineer Antonio Fessia, with a very narrow 12° angle. This 1,298 cm³ engine, with two overhead camshafts and powered by Solex carburetors, develops around 90 hp in the 1300 S version. Combined with a five-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel-drive transmission, it offers a lively, precise ride, supported by a particularly well-balanced chassis and four-wheel disc brakes, still remarkable in this category in the early 1970s.
The Fulvia Sport also retains a number of original technical details, such as its side-hinged hood for easy access to the engine, and its rear hatch – still a rare solution on a sports car of this era – which provides access to a loading area and improves cabin ventilation.
Produced until 1973, the Fulvia Sport Zagato 1300 S Serie 2 represents the latest evolution of this collaboration between Lancia and Zagato, and today represents one of the most usable and accomplished versions of the Fulvia Sport.
The car presented here is a 1973 Fulvia Sport Zagato 1.3 S Série 2 delivered new in Italy. It is in perfect mechanical and body condition, with no corrosion. Very well maintained, it has an extensive file of invoices as well as a restoration file. It is now ready to hit the road.
